Woman charged after stick thrown at child

Chatham-Kent police say a Wallaceburg woman is charged after she allegedly failed to appear in court on a charge related to an incident that saw a stick thrown at a young child.

According to police, the incident happened on April 5 at around 2:30 p.m. Officers were called about an assault in progress in Wallaceburg. When they arrived on the scene, they learned that a woman had thrown a stick at the passing child. Police say witnesses reported that the woman appeared to be under the influence of some sort of intoxicant and had been shouting incoherently prior to the incident. The child did not require medical treatement.

Officers arrested a suspect. A 32-year-old woman from Wallaceburg was charged with assault with a weapon. She was to appear in court on May 12, however police say she did not show up. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was taken into custody on May 14.

She was released with conditions and a scheduled court date of June 2, 2025.

Windsor man charged in break and enter

A 23-year-old man from Windsor faces charges after a break and enter at a home in Chatham.

Officers were called to the home just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14. According to police, a man was seen on video taking property from a shed in the backyard before taking off. Officers found a suspect nearby and took him into custody. They learned that the man was under a court condition that he not be in Chatham-Kent. He is now charged with failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with an undertaking, break and enter to commit theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He is to appear in court May 20.
