Impaired driver claims to have been distracted by a puppy
Chatham-Kent police say it was a drink and not a dog that likely contributed to a Sarnia woman driving into a ditch in Dover Township.
Police say they were called to the scene on Bear Line Road just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday, adding that a concerned citizen had reported a black Honda SUV was swerving and nearly hitting other vehicles before it went off the road.
When officers arrived, the driver allegedly told them that she was distracted by her puppy before the crash.
Police said the officers at the scene noted several signs of impairment, though, including a strong smell of alcohol, slowed speech, and glossy eyes.
Officers said they also found a reusable bottle filled with a liquid that smelled like alcohol when they were looking inside the vehicle.
The driver was reportedly "uncooperative" when she was asked to get out of the vehicle, but she was eventually arrested for impaired driving.
A 46-year-old Sarnia woman was later charged with a pair of impaired driving offences and was later released with a future court date.
Her driver's license was suspended for 90 days, though, and her vehicle was set to be impounded for a week.

A 21-year-old Sarnia man is facing an impaired driving charge after he drove through an implement shed just outside of Chatham Sunday evening.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called in after a vehicle that was seen heading east on Pain Court Line at a high rate of speed failed to stop at a stop sign at Bear Line Road and then kept going onto a property in that area, eventually running into a shed.
Police said the collision caused "significant damage" to both the building and the equipment inside.
A 21-year-old Sarnia man was arrested for impaired driving and taken to police headquarters, but refused to provide breath samples.
He was charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a sample, and several Highway Traffic Act offences before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Windsor man arrested for violating his bail by visiting CK
A 23-year-old Windsor man who was supposed to stay out of Chatham-Kent turned up behind a funeral home in Chatham over the weekend.
Chatham-Kent police say they found the man biking in the dark behind a funeral home on St. Clair Street shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Police said the man was previously released from custody with several conditions including a ban on coming to Chatham-Kent except for court purposes.
Once officers learned who he was, they arrested him and took him to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
CK police said the man was also wanted on a warrant held by police in Windsor.
