CK police cameras help to identify teen stunt driver

A 17-year-old Dover Township resident with an apparent need for speed will have to hitch a ride with someone else for the next little while.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer who was monitoring traffic on Wheatley Road at around 9:50 p.m. Saturday spotted a dark-coloured sedan that was speeding and tried to get the driver to stop, but the vehicle didn't slow down.

Police said the officer called off the chase for safety reasons, but officers were able to identify the vehicle involved in the case after reviewing some CCTV footage.

Investigators were also able to identify the driver and later charged a 17-year-old Dover Township resident with failing to stop for police, stunt driving (50 or more km/h over the limit in an 80 km/h zone), and dangerous driving.

The vehicle was set to be impounded for 14 days and the driver's license was suspended for 30 days.
