Scholarships available for CK art & culture students

The Chatham-Kent Arts & Culture Network is offering two scholarships for local students studying arts and culture.

Anyone between the ages of 16 and 20 who is participating in a full-time post-secondary course is eligible to receive $1,500.

"The importance of supporting emerging artists through programs like our artist scholarship cannot be emphasized enough. It is critical to the development of careers and the future of the creative sector," said Laurie Langford, the Board Chair of the Chatham-Kent Arts Council.

This is the second straight year this scholarship has been offered by the Chatham-Kent Arts & Culture Network.

One of the inaugural recipients was Thomas Martin, who's currently enrolled in the Material Art & Design program at Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) University.

"I was grateful and excited, as the arts in small towns don't get recognized as much as they do in bigger cities," he said.

Martin explained the scholarship helped him immensely during his time at OCAD University. Since it's not strictly for tuition, he's used the money for other needs.

"It helped a lot with groceries since living in Toronto is pretty expensive, and also for finding materials for my projects," Martin added.

People can apply for the scholarships online. Each application must include at least three works of art.

The deadline to apply is June 13, 2025. Finalists will then be required to take part in an interview before the winners are announced.
