CKHA looking for donations to capitalize on couple's generosity

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is hoping to receive some last-minute donations to help purchase a new fluoroscopy machine.

Throughout March, Bill and Mary Dorssers have been tripling all donations, up to $100,000, made to the hospital. So far, around $57,000 has been raised.

"With just days remaining to take advantage of this matching gift opportunity, we encourage everyone who hasn’t donated yet to do so on or before March 31," said Christine Mitchell, president and CEO of the CKHA Foundation.

The hospital needs around $1 million for the much-needed machine.

During a fluoroscopy procedure, an X-ray beam is passed through the body with an image being transmitted to a monitor so the movement of a body part, medical instrument or contrast agent, such as X-ray dye, can be seen in detail.

Including the total raised in March, the CKHA Foundation has been able to collect around $393,000.

Several community groups have already donated including Knights of Columbus St. Joseph’s Council, the Highgate and District Lions Club, the Ladies Auxiliary with Dresden's Royal Canadian Legion, the Kinsmen Club of Chatham, the Kiwanis Club of Ridgetown, the Knights of Columbus St. Ursula Council, the Kinsmen Club of Merlin & District, the Lions Club of Wheatley, and the IODE Confederation Chapter - Ridgetown.

People can donate online, by calling 519-436-2538, or in person at 9 Ursuline Ave in Chatham. The Dorssers will triple donations made before April 1, up to $100,000.
