Food Drive held in CK to celebrate Ag Day

Farmers across Chatham-Kent are celebrating Canada’s Agriculture Day by giving back to those in need.

For the 10th straight year, the Kent Federation of Agriculture (KFA) held a food drive with everything collected being given to the Salvation Army and Outreach for Hunger.

This is the 10th time the KFA has held an event like this.

“It means a lot to the agriculture community to give back. Every time we put out the ask to local participants it’s never been a problem,” said Brad Snobelen, co-organizer of the food drive.

It’s currently not known how much was raised during the drive, however, Snobelen mentioned the KFA’s goal was $10,000.

Paul Stratton, the Business Manager for the CK Salvation Army, said they’re grateful for whatever they get.

“We can’t do anything that we do without community support,” he added.

Meanwhile, the KFA also used the food drive to highlight some of the food being produced across the municipality.

Brenda LeClair, the executive director of Outreach for Hunger, believes the event was a win-win.

“This gives us an opportunity to not only to provide to the families that we’re assisting but to make the community aware of what’s out there,” she said.

Anyone who missed the food drive can still donate to the Salvation Army or Outreach for Hunger online.
