Man throws liquor bottle after his card is declined

A 40-year-old Chatham Township resident who was wanted by police in the Niagara Region got himself in even more trouble Monday afternoon when he threw a liquor bottle at someone in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man after officers were called to a warehouse on St. Clair Street in Chatham for a theft investigation.

Police said the man allegedly tried to buy some liquor and requested a cashback transaction at a store there and then got aggressive when his card was declined.

Officers said the man allegedly threw a liquor bottle at an employee, adding that no injuries were reported.

When police found the man, they learned that he was wanted on several outstanding warrants with Niagara Regional Police Service and he was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Police shorten up wanted list with three arrests

Chatham-Kent police were also able to cross three more names off of their wanted list on Friday with three arrests in less than 12 hours.

Officers said they arrested a 51-year-old Chatham man on Third Street shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday who was wanted for two driving-related offenses including driving while banned and driving with a suspended license. He was later released with a future court date.

A second wanted man was arrested on Park Street in Chatham at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The 27-year-old Chatham man was wanted for a DNA warrant, which was then carried out at police headquarters after his arrest. He was later released without any conditions.

The third arrest involved a 26-year-old Chatham resident who was wanted for assault. Officers picked him up on King Street East in Chatham at around 9:30 p.m. Thursday and he was later released with a future court date.
