Pair of stunt drivers stopped on Highway 401 in CK

Two drivers in their 20s will have to hitch a ride with someone else for the next month after they were stopped for going way too fast on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent recently.

Elgin OPP with the Chatham-Kent Detachment said an officer stopped a vehicle that was heading east on the highway just west of Bloomfield Road at around 11 a.m. Sunday because it was found to be speeding more than 50 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit.

A 25-year-old from Coatsworth was charged with stunt driving in that case.

Later that same day, at around 4 p.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old from Oshawa was also charged with stunt driving after police stopped a vehicle in the westbound lanes near Harwich Road that was also allegedly going more than 50 km/h over the posted limit.

That driver was also charged with driving without insurance.

As a result of the stunt driving charges, both of the drivers had their licenses suspended for 30 days and their vehicles will be impounded for 14 days.
