A pair of organizations in Chatham-Kent are set to benefit from an annual fundraiser this weekend.
Holiday Jam for Hunger will take over Sons of Kent Brewing in Chatham starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 28.
"It is all to raise some much needed funds for two food insecurity organizations in Chatham-Kent," said organizer Alysson Storey. "Hope House, which is the Mental Health Network of Chatham-Kent and works with youth in Chatham-Kent primarily, and Chatham Outreach for Hunger, which is one of our local food banks."
Food insecurity is a growing issue in Chatham-Kent.
"Earlier this year, Chatham-Kent Public Health released some data that showed that 1 in 5 families in Chatham-Kent have to choose between food and rent every single month," said Storey. "So that is really concerning."
Admission to Holiday Jam for Hunger is by donation, and the 20th annual event will see three popular local bands take the stage to perform.
"40 Hours Over, the Dave Trinca Xperience (DTX), and the Soul Remedy Orchestra, they're new this year. So we are thrilled to have everybody on stage at Sons of Kent," said Storey.
Holiday Jam for Hunger started back in 2004, and in that time has raised close to $34,000 for a number of different organizations.
