The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is one step closer to getting a new machine to help with X-rays.
Over $80,000 was donated to the CKHA Foundation on Giving Tuesday, doubling the group's goal for the day.
The money will help cover the costs of replacing the CKHA's fluoroscopy machine. During a fluoroscopy procedure, an X-ray beam is passed through the body with an image being transmitted to a monitor so the movement of a body part, medical instrument or contrast agent, such as X-ray dye, can be seen in detail.
"Just a huge success thanks to so many people from across our community," said Andrew DeBoer, the communications manager for the CKHA Foundation.
A big reason why they were able to exceed their goal was because of the James A. Beattie Foundation. It promised to match donations, up to $20,000, to help drive up interest.
"I don't think we would have seen the success that we did or anything even close to it without that match," added DeBoer.
There's currently no timeline on when the replacement fluoroscopy machine will be bought. The CKHA Foundation is still holding fundraisers to help with the costs such as the current Holiday 50/50.
