The Chatham-Kent Hospice just had a record-breaking fundraiser.
The annual "Handbags for Hospice" event was able to raise $34,000, beating last year's total by around $2,000.
The fundraiser was held back on October 17 at the Everest Convention Centre. It included twelve games of Bingo with the prize for each round being a designer handbag, a raffle table with 31 prizes donated by community members and local businesses, and a draw for a Michael Kors weekender bag and accessories.
"These funds will be used to provide our hospice residents and their families with compassionate care and our community with grief and bereavement support at no cost to them,” said Jodi Maroney, Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.
This is the sixth year the Hospice has hosted the fundraiser. In total, it has raised over $155,000.
Because of its popularity, there will be a second event in 2025 scheduled for April 24 with tickets set to go on sale in February.
