Police make one arrest, look for second suspect in stolen vehicle case

Chatham-Kent police have arrested one suspect and they are searching for a second person after a vehicle was reported stolen in Thamesville.

Police said it was reported stolen on September 15 from an address on Industrial Road.

Three days later, it was seen on Littlejohn Road in Bothwell and then on September 19, the owner of the vehicle saw it on Tower Road in Bothwell.

Officers said they were able to recover the vehicle on Tower Road after the people who were inside took off.

The K9 unit and police drone were used to search the area, but that search came up empty.

Investigators said they were able to identify the individuals involved, though, by reviewing some surveillance footage from various locations in the area.

CK police said they teamed up with the Ontario Provincial Police to find one of the suspects in Alvinston on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested, taken to police headquarters, and charged with possession of stolen property before he was released with a future court date.

Officers are still looking for a second person who is wanted in the matter.

Man accused of damaging keypads at gas station

A 63-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of mischief charges after he allegedly applied a "substance" to two keypads at a local gas station.

CK police said the man showed up at a gas station on Richmond Street in Chatham shortly before 5 p.m. on September 4 and was seen applying the substance to one of the keypads at the pump station.

Police said the man was recorded doing all that on video surveillance.

The man then allegedly left the area only to return inside a different vehicle, pulling up to a different pump and repeating the same action.

Officers said whatever the man did to the pump appeared to have broken the pump, so investigators identified a suspect and contacted him regarding the charges.

He turned himself in at police headquarters in Chatham shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday and was charged with two counts of mischief before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
