CK Crowfest organizers looking for volunteers, participants (GALLERY)

The third annual Chatham-Kent Crowfest is right around the corner but a few things are still missing.

The event, which takes place in downtown Chatham from September 18 to September 21, is looking for volunteers and participants in this year's costume contest.

Crowfest's Volunteer Coordinator Alex Colby says they're looking for volunteers, aged 16 and up.

"We're really looking forward to getting some more volunteers," Colby said. "I would be comfortable with around 60, but I have about 35."

She added that she's looking for people to man barricades and the volunteer desk, as well as ticket stampers, photographers, and general helpers.

Colby said that volunteer shifts would ideally be four hours long. She's specifically looking for people to work 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 20 or anytime Saturday, September 21 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Volunteers do receive some perks including tickets to events, meals, a gift bag, and a discount at the Crowfest pop-up shop.

High school students can also use the opportunity to complete their community hours.

"I'm hoping it'll be a lot of fun," Colby said, adding that the current volunteers are "a big awesome group" but they just need a few more hands on deck.

As for the costume contest, organizer Linda Creswick said they're looking for imagination.

Creswick makes a living creating mascots and teaching people how to use specialty materials to make costumes and animatronic creations. She adds that costumes can be anything.

"Costuming can be fabric, it can be garbage bags, it can be whatever," Creswick shared. "We're [the judges] really receptive because we appreciate how they can put anything to use."

Registration for the costume contest has been extended to Monday, September 16 at 11:59 p.m.
