Man Arrested for Dangerous Driving

Chatham-Kent police have charged a 71-year-old Walpole Island man following a hit-and-run involving a construction worker in Wallaceburg.

Police said the incident took place on Dufferin Avenue at St. Clair Parkway in Wallaceburg Monday afternoon.

Police reported the pickup truck was driving westbound on Dufferin Avenue through the marked construction zone when the right mirror allegedly struck a worker and pylons. The vehicle continued driving westbound, police allege.

The suspected driver was identified with the help of an off-duty and on-duty Walpole Island police officers, according to CKPS, and he was arrested at his residence by Walpole Island police and turned over to Chatham-Kent police.

The 71-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and failing to stop at an accident causing bodily harm.

Police reported the construction worker was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Man Arrested for Arson

An arson charge has been laid against a man after a vehicle fire in the driveway of a home in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police allege the arson happened on St. George Street in Chatham late Monday night.

Officers quickly identified the suspect after watching surveillance footage and getting witness statements, according to police.

Police reported the man had previously been released by the court with conditions prohibiting him from being near the occupant of the home, from being at the home, and from possessing any weapons.

The 30-year-old man from Chatham-Kent was arrested and charged with arson and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Man Arrested for Bail Violations

A 32-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged following a family dispute.

Chatham-Kent police said officers responded to Park Lane in Chatham early Tuesday morning for a family dispute and discovered the man was released by the court with conditions prohibiting him from attending that address and being outside of his own residence during that time.

Investigators allege the man engaged in a verbal argument with the occupants of that home and threatened to harm them.

He has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order and two counts of uttering threats.
