New doctor in Dresden accepting patients

Those without a family doctor in Dresden will have a chance to apply to become patients of the area's newest doctor.

The Dresden Community Healthcare Foundation (DCHF) and Chatham-Kent Family Health Team (CKFHT) announced on Thursday that residents will soon be able to fill out applications for Dr. Malay Shah's practice.

On Thursday, August 22 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., applications will be distributed and collected at the Wheelhouse (547 North Street) in Dresden. There will also be a second "collection only" event at the Wheelhouse on August 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

DCHF advises that applications are not available at other locations, including the Dresden Medical Centre, and are only valid for residents who are currently without a family physician. Adding that submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance.

Dr. Shah studied and trained in Australia. He completed his fellowship at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and holds a diploma in child health from Sydney Children's Hospital Network at the University of Sydney.

Dr. Shah joined the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2023.

His practice will open in the Dresden Medical Centre in November 2024.
