Tornadoes, downbursts confirmed in Chatham-Kent

Two tornadoes touched down in the Chatham-Kent region at the end of the August long weekend.

An investigation done by the Northern Tonadoes Project (NTP) determined that downbursts with top wind speeds of 125 kilometres per hour hit New Scotland and Jaffa on Monday, August 5.

There were no injuries but there was tree and barn roof damage reported.

The next day, weak tornadoes touched down in the Muirkirk and New Glasgow areas. The twisters were classified as being EF0 on Fujita scale, with top wind speeds of 115 km/h. Again, no injuries were reported. The NTP says the twisters caused narrow paths of tree damage.
