Update: missing boater found safe

There's a happy ending to a missing boater situation in Lake Erie.

OPP say they received a report of a missing boater, last seen entering the lake from the Rondeau Bay channel, around 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, August 1.

Police say a group of five people, each operating a separate watercraft, were leaving the bay when one of the vessels struck a hazard in the water, and became partially disabled.

Four of them returned to the marina with the disabled vessel, but one individual became separated from the group after continuing into Lake Erie.

Members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), Canadian Coast Guard, American Coast Guard, Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue, Elgin OPP, Rondeau Provincial Park and Chatham-Kent Police Service assisted with the search.

On Friday morning, police announced that the man had been found and was safe. Police say the man was found near the shore of Lake Erie east of Port Glasgow. He was wearing a life jacket, and stayed with his jet ski while awaiting rescue.
