Man banned from driving arrested after stolen ATV stalls out
A 44-year-old Walpole Island man is facing several charges after a police chase involving an ATV that ended in a farmer's field over the weekend.
Chatham-Kent police said they saw the man driving an ATV on Victoria Street near Bruce Street in Wallaceburg at around 9:45 a.m. Sunday and recognized him from "previous encounters" while also confirming that he was banned from driving.
Police said the ATV didn't have a license plate attached to it, either.
Officers said they attempted to pull the vehicle over on Kent Line near Brigden Road, but the driver allegedly tried to get away by driving into a farmer's field.
Police said the ATV did eventually stop -- when it stalled in a ditch.
The man then took off running, but was quickly arrested and taken into custody, according to police.
Officers said when they carried out a search during the arrest, they also found some suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine and further investigation showed that the ATV had been reported stolen from Dutton in August 2023.
A 44-year-old Walpole Island man is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance along with one count each of suspension, driving while banned, resisting arrest, and possession of stolen property.
