Bronze bell stolen from cemetery near Coatsworth

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to track down a bronze bell that was stolen from a cemetery near Coatsworth a little over a month ago.

Police said the church bell was in the cemetery near New Life Fellowship Church on Goodreau Line and is approximately 2' x 2' in size and was stolen on May 13.

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation should contact Constable Shawn Tremblay at shawnt@chatham-kent.ca.

Teens sought after fire on Mitchell's Bay pier

Chatham-Kent police are looking to speak to three teens who were seen near the Mitchell's Bay pier shortly before a fire was reported there Thursday morning.

Police said they were called to the scene on Lake Street at 8:45 a.m. Thursday saw the pier was damaged by a small fire.

Officers said their investigation showed that three teenagers were seen leaving the area shortly before the fire was discovered and police would like to speak with them.

The teens are described as

- a teenage male approximately 5'10" tall who was wearing a grey sweater

- a teenage male of unknown height who was wearing a grey sweater

- a teenage female approximately 6' tall who was wearing a white top and black pants

Wanted man turns himself in after surety turns down supporting him

A 33-year-old Howard Township man who is facing more than a dozen charges is back in police custody after he failed to get support from a surety.

CK police said the man turned himself in shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officers said the warrant was issued because when the man was released from custody previously, it was on the condition that he would have someone who would supervise him and the person designated for that role decided not to participate in that.

The accused is charged with four counts of uttering threats, three counts of assault causing bodily harm, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of impaired driving, and one count each of assault, arson causing property damage, and arson with disregard for human life.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man wanted for assault arrested in Wheatley

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a 54-year-old Blenheim man who was wanted in an assault investigation from the end of April.

Police said they found the man on Little Street South in Wheatley shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.

He was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.
