Man accused of peeing on the floor after his arrest

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after he treated his holding cell like a toilet bowl.

Chatham-Kent police said they took the man into custody after they were called to a disturbance on Coverdale Street at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said when they found the man, he allegedly refused to leave the area and displayed a "clear intent to persist in disruptive behaviour," so he was arrested for breaching the peace.

The man was taken to police headquarters and lodged in a holding cell where he allegedly peed on the floor.

That led to him being charged with mischief.

He was also taken to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre in Windsor until his next video court appearance on June 14, 2024.

Police nab three more court skippers

Chatham-Kent police arrested three more people on Wednesday who are accused of skipping scheduled court dates.

Officers said one of them was a 30-year-old Wallaceburg woman who they found on Westcourt Boulevard at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said an officer confirmed she was wanted for missing a court date in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation.

She's currently charged with failing to attend court, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

A 31-year-old Chatham woman who was also accused of skipping a scheduled court appearance was arrested just after 12 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers said she was picked up on Wellington Street East in Chatham and was taken to police headquarters.

She's currently facing several charges including careless storage of a firearm and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

A third person who was arrested for skipping court was found on Talbot Street in Blenheim just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

CK police said they arrested a 45-year-old Blenheim man there who was wanted for failing to attend court in relation to an assault investigation from October 2022 and also for probation violations.

All three of the accused were taken to police headquarters and held pending bail hearings.

Unconscious driver didn't have a license

A 60-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing some traffic-related charges after he was allegedly found unconscious in a vehicle in Chatham.

CK police said they found the man in a vehicle on Forest Street shortly after 10:15 p.m. Wednesday and believed he was impaired by an "intoxicating substance."

Officers said their investigation also showed that the man had a suspended driver's license and could not produce ownership or insurance.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters for tests before he was released with a summons for Highway Traffic Act offences.

Man arrested after yelling out threats in Chatham

A 42-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after police were called to investigate a disturbance on Fourth Street in Chatham.

Officers said they were called to the scene just before 12 p.m. Wednesday and learned the man had been yelling out threats about harming people who were present there and also threatening to damage property.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of uttering threats.

Chatham Fraud Investigation

Chatham-Kent police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying suspects in a fraud investigation in Chatham.

Police said debit cards from a stolen wallet have been used at several businesses in Chatham.
