Eight arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police did some spring cleaning on Tuesday, arresting eight people who were all wanted for various offences.

Three of those people also turned themselves in.

Officers said their day of arrests started with a 32-year-old Chatham man turning himself in at police headquarters shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

He was wanted for failing to attend court in a break-and-enter from 2023 and an assault investigation from 2022.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

A 22-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for violating his bail conditions turned himself in at police headquarters at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

He was arrested and later released with a future court date.

The third man who turned himself in was wanted in an assault investigation from June 1. He showed up at CK police headquarters just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested and later released with conditions and a future court date.

In addition to those three arrests, police arrested a 35-year-old Wallaceburg man on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday after confirming that he was wanted on several warrants.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing. He's facing several charges including fraud, unauthorized use of a credit card, possession of stolen property, and failing to comply with a probation order.

Police also picked up a 42-year-old Chatham woman accused of shoplifting from a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham near McNaughton Avenue West.

Police picked her up shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and also learned that she was wanted for failing to attend court in connection with a separate theft investigation.

She was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Police arrested another person who was wanted on outstanding warrant -- this time it was a 33-year-old Wallaceburg woman. She was found just after 5 p.m. on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg and was wanted for failing to attend court in relation to bail violations.

She was taken into custody and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Police nabbed a seventh person who was on their wanted list after pulling a vehicle over on Middle Line that was seen travelling at a high rate of speed through a community zone on Queen Street in Tilbury shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers arrested the driver for stunt driving and confirmed he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in a mischief investigation from September 2023.

The 20-year-old Comber man was arrested and later released with a future court date.

His license was also suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was set to be impounded for 14 days because of the stunt driving charge.

And the eighth person arrested on outstanding warrants on Tuesday in Chatham-Kent was a 26-year-old Chatham man.

He was arrested while police were investigating a disturbance on Holden Street in Dresden shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said when they arrived, they found a man who was trying to hide from officers.

Investigators learned that he was bound by a probation order with conditions not to associate with people who were living at that specific address and that he was also wanted for failing to attend court.

He was arrested and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Wallaceburg man arrested after drunk disturbance

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman and caused a disturbance with his neighbours after day-drinking.

CK police said they arrested the man after they were called to Margaret Avenue in Wallaceburg for a disturbance shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers said they were told that a group of people were involved in a fight and found a man there who was intoxicated and belligerent with visible injuries to his face.

Police also found a woman who had visible physical injuries.

Officers said their investigation showed that the man was drinking alcohol during the day and had become increasingly combative with some neighbours in the area.

He also allegedly assaulted the woman at some point.

When officers were arresting the man, he allegedly tried to run away.

He was arrested a short time later and taken into police custody where he was held until he sobered up.

He is charged with assault, resisting arrest, and escaping lawful custody.

Man arrested for shoplifting in Chatham

A 53-year-old Blenheim man is facing a pair of theft-related charges after he was allegedly caught stealing from a retail business on St. Clair Street near Pioneer Line in Chatham.

Officers said he was stopped and held by Loss Prevention Personnel at the business until police arrived at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and was charged with theft and possession of stolen property before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
