CK court skippers arrested

Chatham-Kent police have rounded up two Chatham-Kent residents who were both wanted for skipping court.

Police said the first arrest was a 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a theft investigation from February 2023.

Officers found him on Wellington Street in Chatham just after 11:15 a.m. Sunday and took him back to police headquarters, where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

He is charged with two counts each of failing to attend court, theft, and possession of stolen property.

In the second case, police caught up with a wanted man on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg just before 2 p.m. Sunday.

He was wanted on outstanding warrants for an August 2023 fraud investigation and failing to attend court in relation to a sexual assault investigation from October 2020.

CK police said the man was also wanted by Ontario Provincial Police.

The 52-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and taken back to police headquarters in Chatham before he was released to the OPP with conditions and a future court date.

He is currently charged with sexual assault, being unlawfully in a dwelling, break and enter, and fraud.

Alleged shoplifter arrested in Chatham

A 43-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing a pair of charges after she allegedly tried to get away with a five-finger discount from a business on Wellington Street in Chatham.

Police said they got that call shortly after 5:15 p.m. Sunday and learned that the woman had gone into the store and then removed some items from the shelves and left without paying for them.

Officers found her a short distance away and arrested her.

She was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Man arrested for mischief

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a man who was wanted in connection with a months-long mischief case.

Police said they found the man on Grand Avenue East in Chatham at around 8:45 a.m. Sunday and confirmed he was wanted in connection with a case that went back to October 2023.

The 48-year-old Chatham man was arrested and later released with a future court date.

He is charged with mischief and break and enter.

Wanted woman arrested in Chatham

A 47-year-old Wallaceburg woman who was wanted for bail violations had another brief stay in police custody early Monday morning.

CK police said they found the woman on Murray Street in Chatham shortly after 12 a.m. Monday and arrested her on an outstanding warrant.

She was later released with conditions and a future court date.

The woman is currently charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order and one count of failing to comply with an appearance notice.
