License plate reader helps police recover stolen vehicle

Two Chatham residents are facing charges after Chatham-Kent police hit a match on their Automatic License Plate Reader.

Officers said they detected the stolen vehicle on St. Clair Street in Chatham at around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday and later found it parked at a nearby business.

A 34-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, both from Chatham, were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

They were both taken to CKPS headquarters.

Police also learned that the man was breaching a probation order, so he was hit with an additional charge.

Both of the accused were later released with a future court date.

Police investigating garage break-in

Chatham-Kent police are looking for tips from the public as they investigate a break-in at an address on Henry O Way in Chatham.

Officers said they got the call at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and found that sometime over the last three days, someone had kicked in the door of a detached garage and took off with numerous items, totalling approximately $5,500 in value.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should contact PC CONN at curtisc@chatham-kent.ca.

Wanted man found sleeping outside of Chatham business

A call about a man sleeping outside of a business on Keil Drive in Chatham Wednesday morning led police to someone they had been looking for.

CK police said they got the call at around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday and that the man they found there was wanted on an outstanding DNA warrant.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters where officers carried out the warrant.

Well-being check leads police to wanted woman

A woman who was wanted for failing to attend court was arrested while CK police were following up on a call for a well-being check Wednesday night.

Officers said they found the woman in the area of Cross Street shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday and learned that she was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

She was taken into custody and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
