Smoke alarm tips off homeowner to intruder in his kitchen
A 24-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing charges after she was allegedly caught cooking in someone else's kitchen Tuesday morning.
Police said the homeowner found the woman cooking in the kitchen at a residence on Queen Street in Chatham just before 9 a.m. Tuesday after the smoke alarm went off.
Investigators said the woman had gathered some personal property including blankets and a cooler and took off when the homeowner called 911.
Officers found the woman on Raleigh Street and arrested her.
She was charged with break and enter and theft and was taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.
As a result of that hearing, she was remanded into custody and is now set to appear in court in April.

West Lorne man arrested for carrying brass knuckles
A 27-year-old West Lorne man with a lifetime ban on possessing prohibited weapons is in more trouble with the law after he was allegedly caught carrying around some brass knuckles.
Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man after they were called to an address on Emma Street in Chatham at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday for an assault investigation.
Police said the man was later released with a future court date.
He is currently charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

'Porch pirate' arrested in Chatham
A 37-year-old Chatham man who picked up a package that didn't belong to him is facing charges after he was caught on camera.
CK police said they were called to an address on Park Avenue West in Chatham for a theft investigation shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday and learned that a man had been captured on video surveillance stealing a delivery from a residence.
Police said the video helped them to identify a suspect and they arrested him just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The man was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for breaking a conditional sentence order.
He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Chatham man arrested for impaired driving after early morning crash
A 47-year-old Chatham man is facing a drunk driving charge after a vehicle hit a house and drove across a lawn on Tissiman Avenue in Chatham.
CK police said they were called to the area just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and believed the man was under the influence of alcohol, so they arrested him.
He was taken to police headquarters for tests and was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

OPP traffic stop turns up wanted CK man
A 22-year-old Howard Township man who had been avoiding Chatham-Kent police is back in their custody after he was stopped by Ontario Provincial Police.
CK police said the OPP contacted them shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday to let them know that they had arrested a man who was wanted by the Chatham-Kent Police Service. He was caught during a traffic stop.
The accused was taken to police headquarters where he was held pending a bail hearing and then remanded into custody with a court date in April.
He is currently facing more than a dozen charges including five counts of uttering threats, three counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of dangerous driving, two counts of mischief, one count of assault causing bodily harm, and one count of failing to comply with an undertaking.
