Chatham-Kent Police are warning the public not to fall for a recent teddy bear phone scam.
Police said they does not solicit donations over the phone for any purpose, including the purchase of teddy bears or any other items.
"We have received numerous reports from concerned citizens who have been contacted by individuals claiming to be collecting monetary donations on behalf of the police service for the purchase of teddy bears," said police in a news release Thursday afternoon. "We want to make it clear that the Chatham-Kent Police Service is not involved in any such fundraising campaign."
Police said these calls are part of a scam and urge the public not to provide any personal or financial information to the individuals calling.
Police encourage people to hang up if they receive a call of this nature and to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors.
