Tilbury man's joyride ends with arrest, impoundment

A 38-year-old Tilbury man who was banned from getting behind the wheel is finding himself on the wrong side of the law again after he was allegedly caught driving on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they pulled the man's vehicle over at around 9 p.m. Wednesday after an officer on general patrol spotted the driver going at a "high rate of speed".

Police said not only was the man banned from driving, he was also bound by a probation order.

He was arrested and charged with failing to comply with one count of violating a probation order, one count of driving while banned, and two counts of driving under suspension.

The man was taken to police headquarters and later released pending a future court date.

The vehicle he was driving was towed to an impound lot where it is set to be held for 45 days.

Three arrests for skipping court

Chatham-Kent police were able to catch up with three local residents on Wednesday who were all wanted for skipping their scheduled court dates.

Police said the first person they arrested showed up at the courthouse.

Officers said the 27-year-old Wallaceburg woman was wanted for failing to attend court on February 28 and she showed up at the Ontario Court of Justice on Grand Avenue West in Chatham just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

She was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

About 20 minutes after she was arrested, police caught up with a man on Degge Street in Chatham who was also wanted for failing to attend court.

The 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing and then remanded into custody pending another court appearance on March 25.

He is currently facing a handful of charges including one count each of assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats, and failing to comply with a probation order along with two counts of failing to attend court.

In the third case, police arrested a 41-year-old Wallaceburg man on Queen Street West in Chatham who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.

Police found him at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and he was later released with a future court date.

Man accused of blocking woman's attempt to leave

A 36-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges in connection with a domestic violence case.

Police said they were called to an address in Chatham for the case on Monday and learned that a man and a woman had been arguing when the man allegedly took the woman's phone and tried to block her from leaving.

He took off before police arrived, but officers were able to track him down just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and arrested him.

He was charged with assault and forcible confinement and was set to be held at police headquarters pending a bail hearing.
