A 15-year-old from Blenheim concluded a successful indoor track season with a bronze medal.
Emma Negri recently competed in the 20lb weight throw at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in Boston, Massachusetts. According to her mother, Krista Negri, it was the largest meet Emma had ever participated in.
There were 59 throwers in Emma's division. She placed third with a throw of 16.15 metres, which is just 1 centimetre shy of her personal best.
In December, Emma broke the Athletics Ontario (AO) U16 12lb weight throw record. In January, she moved up to the U18 division and began throwing a 16lb weight.
In her first meet with this new weight, she broke the U17 and U18 AO records.
Emma then set another record in February by throwing a 16lb weight 19.57 metres, 67 centimetres further than the previous record.
In Canadian competition, Emma won't throw a 20lb weight until she moves up to the U20 division.
