Five youths arrested for assault during late-night brawl in Chatham
A handful of teens are having a rough start to the March Break after a fight in downtown Chatham overnight.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene on King Street shortly after 1:45 a.m. Monday for reports of approximately eight youths being involved in a "physical altercation" at the corner of King Street and Wellington Street.
Police said some bystanders tried to intervene, but they were then assaulted by the youths as well.
A 14-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, and two 15-year-old girls were all arrested and charged with two counts of assault in connection with the investigation.
They were all taken to police headquarters and were later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police use tire deflation device to stop stolen vehicle
A Wallaceburg woman is facing a trio of charges after she allegedly unsuccessfully tried to get away from police while driving a stolen vehicle.
Police said they found her while they were following up on a tip that a vehicle had been stolen from outside of a convenience store on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg at around 9:15 p.m. Sunday.
Officers said they were able to quickly track down the vehicle and tried to get the driver to stop, but she kept going.
Police then used a tire-deflation device to successfully stop the vehicle.
A 25-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, and flight from a police officer.
She was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man wanted by police found sleeping in an elevator
A 36-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for breaching a conditional release order has been arrested after police followed up on a well-being check in Chatham Sunday morning.
Chatham-Kent police said they found the man while they were checking on a man who was reported to be sleeping in the elevator of a building on Fifth Street in Chatham shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday.
Police said they confirmed the same man was wanted on a warrant that was issued on January 19, so he was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Man wanted implicated in Wheatley theft arrested by Essex OPP
Chatham-Kent police got a little bit of help from their counterparts with the Essex County OPP on Sunday.
CK police said they were notified by OPP that they had a man in custody who was wanted on outstanding warrants from Chatham-Kent police from a theft on February 28.
As a result, the 30-year-old Wheatley man was taken to CK police headquarters and was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, and wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence.
He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
