Man accused of trying to help impaired driver escape police custody

Chatham-Kent police made a pair of arrests after a crash over the noon-hour in Chatham on Monday.

Police said they responded to the scene of the collision at Keil Drive and McNaughton Avenue shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday and believed the woman who was driving the vehicle was impaired by a substance, so she was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

While the woman was sitting in the backseat of the cruiser, a man allegedly tried to help her escape.

He was also arrested as a result.

A 49-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was charged with obstructing a peace officer and driving while impaired by drugs. She was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

A 39-year-old Chatham man was charged with obstructing a peace officer and he was taken to police headquarters before he was also released with conditions and a future court date.

Police arrest Wallaceburg man wearing bulletproof vest and carrying "realistic" airsoft gun

A 45-year-old Wallaceburg man who was already in trouble with police is facing even more charges now after officers spotted him coming out of a convenience store in Wallaceburg.

Police said they saw the man leaving the store on McNaughton Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. Monday and that the officer recognized the man as someone who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

When police arrested and searched the man, they found he was wearing a Kevlar bulletproof vest and had a realistic-looking airsoft gun in his possession that resembled a Glock 17 handgun.

The man was taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing and is currently facing a long list of charges including:

- three counts of breaching his release conditions

- three counts of drug possession

- one count each of failing to comply with an undertaking, failing to attend court, possession of a banned/restricted firearm with ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm

Woman wanted for assault turns herself in

A 21-year-old Chatham Township woman who was wanted in connection with an assault investigation in Chatham Township made a stop at CK police headquarters on Monday.

Police said their investigation started when they were called for an alleged assault shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday last week.

Officers were able to identify a suspect and obtained a warrant for her arrest when they couldn't find her.

Police said the woman turned herself in at police headquarters at 10:30 a.m. Monday and is now facing several charges including: assault, assault with a weapon, mischief, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

She was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Wanted man turns himself in

A 64-year-old Zone Township man who was wanted for breaching a conditional sentence order also turned himself in on Monday.

Officers said the man was arrested at police headquarters shortly before 9 a.m. Monday and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Wanted man arrested in Wallaceburg

Some suspicious activity on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg tipped police off to a wanted man.

Officers said they arrested a 32-year-old Walpole Island man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant while they were following up on a lead at 10:45 a.m. Monday.

Police said the man was arrested and taken to police headquarters before he was later released with conditions and a future court date.

The accused is currently charged with eight counts of failing to comply with a release order and one count of being unlawfully in a dwelling.

Chatham man arrested for sending threatening texts, Facebook messages

A 46-year-old Chatham man is learning the hard way that what you say can and will be used against you -- even if it's via electronic messages.

Chatham-Kent police said they got involved Monday morning when officers learned that the man had allegedly sent some text messages and Facebook messages to the victim, threatening to harm them.

Police managed to track down the man accused of sending the messages and arrested him.

He was charged with uttering threats and was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

'Struggling' man arrested on outstanding warrant

A 43-year-old Chatham-Kent man who, according to police, "appeared to be struggling" was arrested in Chatham Monday night for skipping court.

Police said they were checking on the man's well-being just after 7 p.m. Monday when they learned that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing. He is charged with assault with a weapon and failing to attend court.

Woman leaves home during argument, breaks in via window

A 45-year-old Chatham woman is facing a pair of charges after an argument in Tilbury took an ugly turn.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to an address on Vanier Drive just before 11 p.m. Monday for a disturbance and learned that the woman had been arguing with a man when she left the residence.

The woman then allegedly made her way back into the home via a second-floor window and proceeded to cause some damage to the exterior of the home after "being removed" from the building.

Police said they found the woman on the back porch and arrested her.

She was charged with mischief and being unlawfully in a dwelling and was taken to police headquarters, then released with conditions and a future court date.
