Man arrested for messing with traffic lights

A 32-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a mischief charge after he took over control of some traffic lights in Wallaceburg.

CK police said they were called to Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg on the morning of January 12 and learned that someone had gained access to some traffic lights and was manipulating the flow of traffic.

Police said they were able to identify a suspect and got a warrant for his arrest.

The accused managed to avoid police for just over a month before he turned himself in at police headquarters just before noon on Thursday.

The man was then arrested and charged with mischief endangering life and he was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham man arrested for impaired driving after crashing into Dover Township ditch

A 53-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after a vehicle rolled over into a deep ditch on Baldoon Road just north of Chatham overnight.

Police said they were called to the scene near Pioneer Line just after 2 a.m. Friday, adding that a vehicle was upside down in the ditch.

Officers said the driver and the passenger were taken out of the vehicle and sent to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police also believed the man who was driving at the time of the crash was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested.

The man was later charged with impaired driving and failing to comply with a demand.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date and was also issued a summons to provincial court for driving with a suspended driver's license.

Registered sex offender arrested for violating his probation

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 29-year-old Chatham-Kent man accused of breaching a probation order and the Sex Offender Registry Act.

Police said they arrested the man at 8 p.m. Thursday when they were following up on some suspicious activity on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Officers found the man there and learned that he was wanted on outstanding warrants.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

The man is currently charged with two counts of failing to comply with the Sex Offender Registry Act and one count of failing to comply with a probation order.

Wanted woman accused of stealing pickup truck

A 40-year-old Chatham woman who was already wanted by police is in more trouble with the law after she allegedly stole a pickup truck from a business in Harwich Township.

Police said they obtained the warrant for her arrest on December 7 last year and were able to link her to a separate incident where someone broke into a business on Talbot Trail in Harwich Township about a month later.

Investigators said a pickup truck was stolen from the business and later recovered the same day on King Street in Chatham.

Officers said they found the woman on Thursday on Pearl Crescent in Chatham and arrested her there.

She was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Two people arrested for skipping court

Chatham-Kent police have tracked down two more people accused of skipping their scheduled court dates.

Police said the first arrest was a 36-year-old Walpole Island man at around 1 p.m. on James Street in Wallaceburg on Friday.

Officers caught up with him while they were following up on a well-being check and learned that he was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant for failing to attend court.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

A second man accused of skipping court was arrested on Berry Street in Chatham at around 4:15 p.m. when police were following up on an unrelated call.

Officers said they found a man there who was wanted on an outstanding warrant and took him to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

The 30-year-old Chatham man is charged with five counts of driving while suspended, two counts of assault, and one count of failing to attend court.
