Chatham woman arrested following shoplifting incident
A 31-year-old woman is facing charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 after an incident at a local drug store.
Chatham-Kent police said that they received a call at about 12:30 p.m. on Monday from the Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street about a woman shoplifting in the store.
"Prior to police arrival, an employee confronted the female suspect, and following a short altercation was able to recover the items concealed within her bag," police explained. The woman than left the scene, but was later found by officers.
The suspect was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing. She was released with conditions and a future court date.

Wanted man facing new charges
A Chatham man, wanted for breaking-and-entering, extortion, and forcible confinement, is now facing drug charges.
Chatham-Kent police said they saw the suspect walking on Lacroix Street just after 2:30 p.m. on Monday and arrested him on his outstanding warrant. When searching him during his arrest, officers said they found him to "be in possession of several controlled substances."
The 37-year-old is being held in police custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested trying to break into business
The owner of a Chatham hair salon was quick to call police when her security cameras showed a man trying to break into her business.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to Tease Hair Salon and found the suspect still on the scene. He was arrested for breaking-and-entering at the time.
Further questioning revealed that the man had a court ordered 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a condition prohibiting him from possessing any break and enter tools, which police determined had been used during the offence.
The 35-year-old now faces additional charges of failing to comply with an undertaking and failing to comply with a probation order.
