Chatham man charged after nearly hitting police cruiser

A 32-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after nearly crashing into a police cruiser in Chatham.

Provincial police said the driver was pulled over just before 3 a.m. on Thursday after an officer on patrol was nearly hit by a vehicle on Grand Avenue East near Devonshire Road.

The investigating officer believed the driver was showing signs of intoxication and failed a roadside test.

The 32-year-old was arrested and transported to police headquarters for further tests.

He was later charged with impaired driving and driving while under suspension.

His license was also suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for one week.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
