Multiple warrant arrests made

Police arrested a man in Wallaceburg after receiving reports of him acting suspiciously.

Police said that a witness watched the suspect entering multiple vehicles and kept an eye on him after he was confronted about it.

Officers found the man in the area of Dufferin Avenue and arrested him.

After his arrest, police determined that the suspect was wanted for failing to appear in court in relation to several weapons charges. He was taken to police headquarters and held for bail.

A wanted woman has turned herself in to Chatham-Kent police.

According to police, she had an outstanding warrant for failing to show up for court for several charges.

The woman was released with a future court date of March 4.

Police warn about common Grandparent Scam money asks

Chatham-Kent police have recently received calls about more Grandparent Scams affecting area residents.

The calls typically consist of a scammer posing as a grandchild, police officer, or lawyer requesting money from the victim.

Some recent scams police have heard about include:

  • a collision involving a pregnant woman who was struck

  • a collision with drugs being found in the car

  • being arrested for impaired driving

  • a collision and the grandchild was on their cell phone while driving

  • being broken down in another province

  • being detained in another province

Police are reminding the public that a police officer would never ask a person for money, over the phone or otherwise.
