Wet weather and warm temperatures could cause flooding in the region.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) warned on Wednesday that ponding, areas of standing water, and localized flooding have already formed due to the 15-25 millimetres of rain seen over the past 48 hours. Additional melting snow and more rainy weather could cause more hazardous conditions.
Ice and snow in smaller watercourses could lead to blockages and potentially cause flooding in low-lying areas. The Thames River is already higher than usual for this time of year and could rise further with the forecasted rain.
Significant flooding is not anticipated.
The LTVCA anticipates having to operate the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel and is prepared to do so.
The Conservation Authority warns that people, pets, and livestock should be cautious around the river, or any ditches or streams. The combination of slippery banks and fast-moving, cold water can be dangerous.
The LTVCA's flood outlook is in effect until January 29.
