Spike belt stops fleeing driver

Sarnia police officers deployed a spike belt to stop a fleeing vehicle at around 1:20 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police said a 42-year-old Wallaceburg woman and another person were found unconscious inside of a running vehicle at a plaza on East Street.

The woman allegedly had her foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive.

Police said when officers attempted to wake the woman, she drove away hitting a police cruiser and a spike belt.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the vehicle, which has been seized, was found to have been used in two separate criminal events.

The suspect was charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance given that she, having regard to all the circumstances, was operating it in a manner dangerous to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
