Checks come up mostly empty during CK police Holiday RIDE program

Chatham-Kent police are thanking the public for their help in making the 2023 holiday season a safe and mostly sober one on local roads.

Police said they checked almost 3,000 vehicles during their Holiday RIDE campaign, but only arrested one driver for impaired driving as a result.

Officers said they made a second impaired driving arrest during the campaign, which stretched from October 1, 2023 to January 1, 2024, but that second arrest was related to a motor vehicle collision and not a RIDE check.

Officers said they checked 2,931 vehicles during 10 RIDE stops, administered 39 roadside tests and issued only two three-day warnings.

The RIDE checks also resulted in seven Highway Traffic Act charges, one other criminal code charge, and one liquor license violation.
