It may be a bit of a chilly start to the splash pad season in Chatham-Kent, but the first facilities are set to open this weekend.
The splash pads in Bothwell, Dresden, Ridgetown, Thamesville, Tilbury, and Wheatley are all set to open for the season on Saturday, May 20.
It probably won't be a very hot start to the season, though, as the forecast from Environment Canada is calling for highs in the low-to-mid 20s Celcius with a chance of rain on Saturday, too.
The next batch of splash pads will open on June 1 -- that includes the facilities in Blenheim, Merlin, and two in Wallaceburg.
The last two splash pads to open for the season will be the ones in Mitchell's Bay Park and Chatham's Kingston Park. Those are both set to open on June 5.
At this point, all of the municipal-run facilities are set to close on September 5.
That could change this summer, though.
Ward 6 Councillor Brock McGregor entered a successful motion earlier this spring to have municipal staff review the opening and closing dates of all splash pads to have them potentially open earlier in the year and shut down later.
A report is expected to come back to council sometime in July or August.
