A 50-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly threatened to burn a local business down.

CK police said they were called to the business on Murray Street just before 10 a.m. Monday for that investigation and learned that the man had posted the threatening comments online.

Chatham man arrested for contacting his victim

A 20-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with violating his release conditions after he allegedly contacted someone he had been ordered to stay away from.

CK police said the man was charged with assault, uttering threats, and mischief on December 6 before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Those release conditions included a ban on communicating with a specific woman and also required him to stay away from anywhere she was known to live, work, or go to school.

Police said they learned Tuesday afternoon that the man had breached those conditions by showing up at the victim's address and trying to communicate with her.

Officers found the man while he was walking on King Street East in Chatham and arrested him. He was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.

The man turned himself in at police headquarters at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and was later released with a future court date.

Police said he is currently facing four counts of assault.

Two men arrested for skipping court

Chatham-Kent police have tracked down two more wanted men locally who both allegedly skipped their scheduled court dates.

Police said a 23-year-old Wallaceburg who missed a court appearance on November 24 turned himself in to police shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

He is facing 12 counts of failing to comply with a probation order, three counts of obstructing a peace officer, and two counts of failing to attend court and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
