Chatham-Kent council is looking for the public's guidance in setting the priorities for the municipality's multi-year budget.
Residents will have a chance to have their say on the 2024-2027 budget through community consultation events that will take place virtually on Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. and Thursday from 7-8 p.m. on the official Chatham-Kent Facebook page.
The proposed tax hike for 2024 is 6.57 per cent. Inflation accounts for four percentage points, infrastructure 1.5 points, police 0.8 points and other budget items, 0.27 points.
In the following years to come, the proposed increases are 8.69 per cent in 2025, 8.29 per cent in 2026, and 7.76 per cent in 2027.
However, the final proposed increase won’t be decided until the budget committee passes the budget.
Both consultation sessions will begin with a summary of the draft budget followed by a question-and-answer period.
The first budget deliberation is set for Tuesday, November 28 at 6 p.m.
