Police report finding meth and cocaine on wanted man

A 38-year-old Harwich Township man who was already wanted by police is facing even more charges after officers allegedly found some illegal drugs on him.

Chatham-Kent police said they found the man on Merritt Avenue in Chatham at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday after they got a tip about where he was.

Officers said the man tried to run away, but they were able to quickly take him into custody.

When police searched the man, they allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine and cocaine in his possession.

He was charged with two counts of drug possession in addition to previous charges related to failing to comply with his release orders.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and he was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Wanted man arrested in downtown Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are making sure that a 46-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was wanted for skipping court will show up for his next date with a judge.

Police said an officer on general patrol arrested the man on Fifth Street near King Street in Chatham shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday after recognizing him from "previous encounters."

Officers were able to confirm that the man was wanted on outstanding warrants and he was arrested.

The accused was arrested and charged with four counts of failing to comply with a probation order, two counts each of theft and possession of stolen property, and one count of failing to attend court.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Window-breaker arrested after allegedly skipping court

A 45-year-old Chatham man accused of breaking a window at a Chatham residence is in more trouble with the law after he allegedly skipped a scheduled court date.

Police said the man was arrested and charged with mischief on June 2, 2023 after a window was broken at a residence on Merici Way.

He was released from custody, but officers said he allegedly failed to show up for court to answer to the charge.

Police obtained a warrant for his arrest and found him on Colborne Street in Chatham on Thursday.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
