Driver, passenger both arrested after police pursue stolen vehicle

Chatham-Kent police got another assist from their Automatic License Plate Reader.

Police said an officer on general patrol hit a match for a stolen vehicle on Haskell Road in Tilbury East Township at around 3:15 a.m. Thursday and notified other officers who were on patrol at the time.

Investigators said while the officers were still preparing to stop the vehicle, the driver stopped the vehicle and took off on foot.

Police were able to catch up to him and took him into custody.

Once they found out who he was, they also learned that he had been banned from driving and that he was wanted by Windsor police.

Officers who were searching the area also found a woman hiding in a ditch nearby and learned that she was out on a conditional sentence order and was wanted by Sarnia police.

A 31-year-old Windsor man was charged with possession of stolen property, driving while prohibited, and dangerous driving.

A 38-year-old Sarnia woman was charged with possession of stolen property and breaching a conditional sentence order.

Both of the accused were taken to police headquarters and were set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Driver who hopped a curb booked for impaired driving

A traffic tip from a concerned citizen helped Chatham-Kent police track down an impaired driver in Wallaceburg.

CK police said they went looking for the driver after someone contacted police to let them know they saw the vehicle go over a curb on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers said after they found the vehicle, they believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so they arrested him and took him to police headquarters for testing.

A 40-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and he was released once he sobered up.

His vehicle was towed from the scene.

Man Arrested for Drug Trafficking

Chatham-Kent police have laid a slew of charges against an alleged drug trafficker in Chatham.

Police said officers stopped a vehicle on St. Clair Street on Tuesday and upon doing a routine check of the man’s license, discovered he was prohibited from driving.

The man was arrested and suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $14,500 was found during a search, according to police. A cell phone and a large amount of Canadian cash were also seized.

Police said the vehicle was towed.

A man from Whitby, just east of Toronto, was charged with several driving and drug charges.
