Fresh off of raising a record-breaking amount at its Benefit Gala, the Chatham-Kent Hospice is reporting it broke another record with one of its local fundraisers.
The annual "Handbags for Hospice" event, hosted at the Everest Convention Centre in Chatham on Thursday, October 12 sold out within 48 hours of tickets going on sale and raised a record $32,000 for end-of-life care locally.
A release from the CK Hospice Foundation said the guests played 12 games of Bingo with the winners taking home brand-name designer handbags from names like Michael Kors, Coach, or Kate Spade.
They also raffled off 35 more prizes donated by local businesses and held a draw for a Michael Kors weekender and accessories.
“We are so thankful to the planning committee and the community for their support of Handbags for Hospice. A special thank you to those who sponsored handbags in memory of their loved ones," said Jodi Maroney, Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. "These funds will be used to provide our Hospice residents and their families with compassionate care and our community with grief and bereavement support at no cost to them."
This year marked the fifth year for the event, which has raised a total of over $121,000 for the hospice over that time.
