Multiple arrests made following traffic stops

A 73-year-old Chatham man is facing impaired driving charges.

Police said that a traffic stop was initiated after a driver was seen travelling on Church Street in Chatham with no lights on. During the stop, it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.

After further testing, police said that the man had consumed twice the legal limit before driving.

The senior was released from custody with a future court date of November 20, 2023.

Chatham-Kent police also stopped a vehicle driving on King Street with no lights.

According to police, testing showed that the driver had consumed 1.5 times the legal limit of alcohol.

A 29-year-old man was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired and released with a November court date.

Vehicle break and enters under investigation

Chatham-Kent police continue to investigate after multiple cars were broken into over the weekend.

"A fenced-in area was entered at a local business and windows to 3 cars were smashed," police said.

The incident took place on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Police reported that whoever broke in also took property out of the vehicles before fleeing the area.
