Dresden Dog Park fundraiser coming to The Wheelhouse

The Rotary Club of Dresden has partnered with the Dresden Dog Park Committee to present "Blues and Books" a fundraiser to move towards getting shovels in the ground for a local dog park.

The event will take place at The Wheelhouse in Dresden on Saturday, October 14. Doors open at 7 p.m. with tickets costing $30 apiece.

The evening will feature Canadian blues musician Rick Fines and author John Gardiner.

Fines has recorded 14 albums and toured the country multiple times as a solo act, as part of a duo, and as part of a trio.

Gardiner is a short-story writer; his work has appeared alongside stories by D.H. Lawrence, Margaret Atwood, and Amy Tan. His first published book is called Memories for Sale, his second, My Lefthanded, Backwards, Upsidedown Life & Assorted Short Stories, was released in the fall of 2021.

Dresden Dog Park Committee Chair, Kelly Mallette, said that the committee hopes to raise $1,000 with the "Blues and Books" fundraiser.

An off-leash area for man's best friend in Dresden was approved by the Chatham-Kent council in May. Mallette said that $50,000 is required to move forward with the park, though that total is subject to change. To date, $13,481 has been raised.

The goal is for fence installation to begin in the Spring of 2024 with a grand opening in June 2024.
