Cyclist stopped for not being bright enough

A 24-year-old Wallaceburg man who was wanted by police is finding out the hard way that you need to have a light on your bicycle if you're going cycling after dark.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was one of two cyclists who were stopped in Wallaceburg at around 2:30 a.m. Friday for biking without any lights at nighttime.

Police said after they stopped the cyclists, one of the riders dropped their bike and started running away.

Officers said they were able to stop the man after a short pursuit and arrested him.

He was charged with obstructing a police investigation, escaping lawful custody, and breaching his probation.

Through their investigation, police also learned that the man was wanted for similar offences in other jurisdictions in Ontario. He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
