CK police deploy drone, police dog to track down suspect

A 50-year-old Chatham man is finding out the hard way you can run -- and even swim -- but you can't hide from the long arm of the law.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called in by OPP just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to help track down a man who was wanted in connection with a stolen utility trailer that had tools inside.

CK police said before they arrived, the man had allegedly evaded OPP on foot and was believed to be hiding along the Thames River in the area of Longwoods Road and Communication Road.

Officers said they sent out K9 Helix and the CKPS drone and managed to find the suspect, who was allegedly hiding in some tall weeds and mud after swimming across the Thames River.

The man was arrested and handed over to OPP.

Man accused of trying to grab and bite paramedics

A 32-year-old Chatham man spent some time sobering up in Chatham-Kent police custody after officers found him passed out in Chatham Tuesday morning.

CK police said they found the man shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after they got a call about an unconscious male in the area of Coverdale Street.

Police said the man appeared to be under the influence when they arrived, adding that he allegedly started acting erratically and tried to grab and bite paramedics who were at the scene while also refusing to obey commands.

The accused was arrested for breaching the peace and he was taken to police headquarters where he was held until he sobered up.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Allegedly intoxicated man arrested in Merlin

A 45-year-old Chatham man also spent some time sobering up in police custody after he was arrested for public intoxication overnight.

Police said they were called to the area of Badder Line in Merlin at around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday for a disturbance and learned that there was a man there who was under the influence and acting out.

The man was allegedly damaging a residence and trying to engage in an argument.

When officers arrived, they determined that the man was "unable to care for himself", so he was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there until he sobered up.
