The bylaw regulating All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) in Chatham-Kent will undergo a review as a councillor pushed Chatham-Kent Council for change on Monday.
Ward 4 Councillor Jamie McGrail introduced a motion at the Monday evening council meeting asking for staff to review the current time restrictions for off-road vehicle use on municipal highways and report back to Council with recommended changes.
Her motion also included getting feedback on recommendations regarding an educational campaign to mitigate risks associated with nighttime off-road vehicle use.
The current bylaw allows off-road vehicles on highways within the municipality, but not from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise.
McGrail is pushing for the review because she said the time restrictions limit the ability of local ATV clubs and groups to organize events, particularly in the winter when there is less daylight.
McGrail said the ATV events represent a recreation opportunity for Chatham-Kent residents, a tourism generator, and a fundraising source for local charities.
