Ten-year-old Spencer Morgan raised $1,645 during a fundraising journey to honour the memory of his late grandfather, Grant, while also offering support to the Chatham-Kent Hospice.
Initially, Spencer set a goal of $1,000; Spencer's efforts went above and beyond, resulting in a total of $1,645 in donations—and the contributions keep coming.
Spencer raised the money by pledging to swim laps of his grandmother's pool and ended up swimming for an hour and a half -- finishing 80 laps during that time.
He was motivated by his late grandfather's desire to impact his community positively alongside his mother, Melissa Willard.
Melissa shared with CK News Today, "It's not just adults that it affects. When a family member passes, children feel it too, and they have the biggest hearts ever, and if you can get your child involved in helping organizations like the Hospice, it goes the million miles."
The Chatham-Kent Hospice, located at 34 Wellington Street East, provides essential end-of-life care. Spencer's grandfather, Grant, spent his last months at the Hospice and received excellent care, making the fundraiser more meaningful to Spencer and his family.
Spencer presented the funds he had raised to Katherine Stinson from Chatham-Kent Hospice at his grandmother's residence in Tilbury on August 29.
