CK police seize $500K in illegal drugs during raid

A Chatham man faces half a dozen charges after police turned up close to $500,000 worth of illegal substances during the search of several properties last week.

On August 23, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section searched a home on McFadden Avenue, the homeowner’s vehicle, and a storage unit on Queen’s Line as part of a drug probe.

As a result, investigators turned up nearly half a million in drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and other controlled substances. Police also seized digital scales, packaging materials, a counting machine, a vacuum seal machine, cell phones, and an unspecified, “large” amount of cash.

Chatham-Kent police said officers also found a number of firearms, including six handguns, eleven long rifles, and several hundred rounds of ammunition.

A 37-year-old Chatham man faces charges including six counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking the following substances:

  • Cocaine

  • Methamphetamine

  • Heroin

  • Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD)

  • Oxycodone

  • Hydromorphone

The accused was taken to police headquarters and released with a future court date of October 5.
