Flood watch issued through Monday

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has issued a flood watch for parts of the Sydenham River.

The watch is in place from Saturday to 9 a.m. on Monday as the organization continues to monitor water levels.

"Water levels in the lower reaches of the Sydenham continue to rise with minor flooding in Wallaceburg anticipated," the SCRCA said in a release. "Water levels continue to remain high resulting in over-bank flooding in floodplain areas. Localized flooding will continue to expand into low-lying areas, mostly agricultural floodplain and parkland areas."

The conservation authority advised that the public stay away from watercourses. Banks will be slippery, with the possibility of erosion, and fast-moving water can be dangerous, especially for children and pets.

The SCRCA also reminded that roadways that were closed earlier in the week due to flooding will continue to be affected by high water levels.

Flood watches are issued when the potential for flooding exists in specific watercourses or municipalities.
